Hate to beat a dead horse, but there are some lessons in all this for everyone. I had an experience last year, where I was trading a stock long (yes I hate to admit it) and I was in and out of about 5k shares all day. At the end of the day when I went to sell my last thousand, Eturd said I didn't have the shares to sell, but I knew I did. So I got on the phone and got a rep who insisted that I didn't have the 1 thousand shares so I could not sell them, I told her I did and I was going to sell them because I didn't want to get stuck with the stock ( which was selling fast) She kept assuring me I didn't have to worry because I didn't have the shares, "she guaranteed it" no way no how could I end up with the shares long. But I knew better, and I told her I would short the shares so that when they discovered the mistake it would zero out, this made her furious. But I did short the shares, and sure enough 2 days later my long shares were found and 3 days later every thing zeroed out.
