[World DRAM Price] Prices of 128MB DIMMs Decline to One-Tenth Level in a Year
August 22, 2001 (TOKYO) -- The 30-day rolling average prices of 128MB DIMMs have dropped to the one-tenth or less of the level of a year ago, in the Asian spot market.

Due to this sharp price-reduction trend, many PC users are adding more memory. The inventories of DRAM manufacturers are expected to decrease from around September due to their production cutbacks, and there might be a slight fluctuation in the spot market.

According to a worldwide DRAM price survey conducted by ICIS-LOR, based in London, Houston and Singapore, the 30-day rolling average prices of 128Mb DRAMs (PC133, 16M x 8) through Aug. 3, 2001 (July 5 -Aug. 3, 2001) for large-volume users were US$2.39 in North America, US$2.46 in Europe and US$2.43 in Asia.

Compared with the previous week (30-day rolling average prices through July 27), the prices fell 9.10 percent in North America, 8.08 percent in Europe and 4.46 percent in Asia.

As for memory module prices, the spot prices of 128MB DIMMs (PC133) fell 2.75 percent to US$14.92 in North America, compared with the previous week, and they fell 4.16 percent to US$14.41 in Europe and declined 3.06 percent to US$13.32 in Asia.
