It was a psychology course. As a Freudian in the 70's, Bettelheim was already pretty dated in terms of mainstream psychology. There was a huge reading list, 10 books maybe, about a third Freud, a third Bettelheim, a third others, Eric Ericson is the only one I remember.

His lectures were good, he talked a lot about Shakespeare and other literary sources. Being a hard science major, I didn't have the best background for dealing with the rather wide scope of the course.
