Thanks for the input. With reference to the article titled "Matsushita may seek partners to gain 3G goals", one trend I find interesting is that software glitches in mobile phones do not seem to be tolerated by consumers at least in Japan. Or is it that the carrier does not tolerate them, for fear it might reflect badly on their service ?

One of the recalls Matsushita had cost them $24 million not to mention the cost associated with tarnishing their corporate image. One way forward would be to use a protected OS like VxWorks AE with application isolation etc. Surely this would reduce the risk of software glitches significantly and ultimately be more cost effective in the long run ?
