It's a lot safer starting with solid manganese metal!
----------------------------------------------------

Because, if carbon black (easily mistaken for MnO2) is added to hot KNO3, a fire and explosion can occur. (Recall that ordinary gunpowder is a mixture if KNO3 + Charcoal + sulfur.)

Icing sugar resembles powdered KNO3. If icing sugar is accidentally added to hot/molten KNO3, a big flareup and explosion can occur. Ditto for C added to hot KNO3!

I have heard that some reloaders/hunters sometimes use a [mixture of icing sugar and an oxidizing agent or mix of oxidizing agents (KNO3, K2Cr2O7, KClO3)] in place of gunpowder to reload their cartidges.
--------------------------------------------------

But still why use Mn when MnO2 is readily available? (Just take extra care!!!)
By the way, KMnO4 (a dark purple solid) is also readily available and may be readily reduced to the green K2MnO4.

I suppose that this reduction, KMnO4 to K2MnO4, while it is easily done in water solutions, is not suited to what is to be accomplished at high temperatures?

Cooking for Gold, and Tooting Gata Bill is Cooking.

PBS t.v. - Nations compete in 2000 Culinary Olympics

Date: 8/23/01
From: LePatron @ Le Metropole Cafe

... at The Dos Passos Table.
It is entitled, "Gold as Theatre" and is a bombshell for GATA.

This "Press Release" should be sent to members of the press,
members of U.S. Congress and to gold companies around the world.

It ENHANCES both GATA's claims and credibility.

GATA activity is picking up all over the place.

On September 4th, I will be in Arlington, Virginia to tape
a television program called Endangered Liberties
produced by The Free Congress Foundation
and hosted by Brad Jansen, Lisa Dean, and Paul Weyrcih.

The show airs in 10 million homes across the country.

Next Monday August 27th, 4PM Eastern time, I will appear
in behalf of GATA on the Jeff Rense nationally syndicated radio show
- which means GATA coverage on 130 radio stations
and on www.rense.com which gets 5 million hits per month.

Chris Powell and I would like thank so many of you
that just sent in contributions to GATA via our newly
available credit card payment vehicle...

GATA is taking it to The Gold Cartel. They are backpedaling
while we are on the attack. It is time to intensify our assault
and put pressure on them that is unbearable - pressure that
will cause them to retreat or be defeated!

CHAIRMAN
GOLD ANTI-TRUST ACTION COMMITTEE

All the best,
