I'm not sure we are in control. Just because we can fool ourselves, and make very bad decisions (or good ones) does not really imply we are in control. We could be programmed to make those decisions. I just wanted to separate those issues- because true control, and the idea of control, are separate ideas. I think about that often. Probably because I think more and more about cause and effect now. The older you get the more chains of cause and effect you have to look back on (although these chains are so complicated you cannot really "know" the details, but still, we have more to look back on, however imperfectly). Patterns emerge, and whether they are real or illusory, they are interesting. And it makes me wonder how in control we really are. Of course the illusion of control is in itself a decisive factor.

I choose to act as if I have control, because I know it affects my behavior to do that- and I also know it is pretty much determined that I will accept that, based on who and what I am. If you think about that long enough you can get the same sensation in your head that you get on a merry go round- or at least I can.
