Our government forcefully takes our little gold ducats from us, it is an accepted part of our culture.

You just can't pass an opportunity for a mini libertarian rant, can you? No more than you can pass up an opportunity for a grub. BTW, I got 20000. Just stumbled into it.

I think that any value system that violates the basic concept of the golden rule is inherently flawed.

I agree. Both X and I have argued on this board that this is a function of a social contract (Locke). Some smart people way back when figured out that the best way for them to survive is for them to enter into a contract like the golden rule and that our morality derives from that. It's getting very late in the day for me and words are failing me. But the debate is about whether humans chose to form this contract and invented the system around it or whether an externality dictates our morality.

Our government forcefully takes our little gold ducats from us, it is an accepted part of our culture. And the fact is, since the government forcefully takes our ducats from us (through taxes), by the same logic as the theft above, it is morally wrong. Regardless of how many people claim that it is the government's right, it is still stealing.
Laws are needed in a society, such as a law against theft. Police are needed to enforce those laws. How are they to be paid without taxes?
