Combjelly, Re: "AMD begins their SOI ramp in the second half of 2002
You spelled "ends their SOI ramp" or "end of 2001" wrong."

Not so fast. Take a look at AMD's public roadmap, first.

amd.com

All of their SOI chips are set to debut in the second half of 2002, at the earliest. Roadmaps rarely get pulled in, so I assume that this still stands. Now, just what do you figure AMD will be ramping in the fourth quarter without any products for another 6-12 months?

To use the link that you provided, we see that Hector Ruiz says the following:

"Our plans continue on target for the beginning of the .13 micron conversion in the fourth quarter for both bulk and SOI based technologies."

Now, Hector has been wrong before on multiple times, but even assuming that what he said is correct, how do you figure that "beginning the conversion" means "starting the ramp"? I define a "ramp" as actually increasing the rate of shipment of production ready products. Meanwhile, Hector can define "conversion" any way he wants, and that can include something as menial as the purchase of additional machinery.
