Why would you need to wait for the body of leaders to change their position before determining what is right and wrong?

I am guessing that you wouldn't want to be enslaved, therefore it is a pretty good guess that it is wrong to enslave another person.

What if that body of respected leaders decided that slavery was cool again. Would you change your views to match them in that situation? If not, how is this situation different?
