I assume that you've heard of the western aid workers that have been arrested by the Taleban for trying to convert Muslims to Christianity. They worked for a group called Shelter Now International. A quote from their website: Shelter Now International is a tax exempt 501(c)3 charitable organization, accountable to an outside board of directors. We hold membership in the Association of Evangelical Relief Organizations (AERDO) and are registered with the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). Our financial statements are audited by an independent accounting firm and are available upon request. As a Christian Relief and Development Organization we do not discriminate against anyone that needs shelter and we invite people from all denominations, nationalities and faiths to join us in the fight to provide shelter for the poor. Nothing conclusive, of course, but I do have the sneaking suspicion that the aid workers may have been doing exactly what the Taleban says they were doing. I do not, as you know, think much of the Taleban. However, it is imperative that aid workers in particular respect the laws of the country in which they work: by violating them, they could jeopardize an entire relief effort and cause great harm to the people they are supposed to be helping. This in fact seems to be happening: since the arrest the Taleban have been investigating aid organizations across the board. If the workers in question were in fact evangelizing, despite knowing perfectly well what the potential consequences would be, I don't see any reason why anyone should intervene to rescue them, any more than anyone would if they were caught smuggling drugs. If they thought prosletyzing was important enough to jeopardize the mission they were there to accomplish, they shouldn't have been there in the first place. They wanted martyrdom, let them have it.
