Commerce Department releases annual revisions to NIPA accounts - employee compensation revised upwards, corporate profits revised downwards.

dismal.com

Before everyone has a cow, or a cat, the IRS doesn't release its final data for a couple of years - last time I checked, a couple of weeks ago, the latest final IRS data was 1998. The preliminary Commerce Dept. statistics are based largely on surveys.

IRS data is as good as it gets. People may lie to the IRS, but they'll never admit it.

Well, the bank records that the Fed keeps are as good as it gets, as well. Gone over with a fine tooth comb by professional accountants. If it's fudged, you'll never prove it.

>>So what's the deal with the lumber tariff?<<

The U.S. lumber industry claims that Canada is subsiding its lumber industry and dumping lumber in the U.S. Bush just slapped on countervailing duties, and there is a possibility of much more severe anti-dumping penalties ahead. I wish this had been handled more tactfully.

Lumber: US-Canada, Fish: Canada-Spain. Bananas: US-Europe.

And this was supposed to be a post-industrial era!
At least Canada-Brazil is about commuter jets.
