JC: That's like saying "but 3 kilobytes per second on a text-only web browser was just enough to get a lot of enjoyment out of the internet". It is true, from a certain point of view, but only from a "I don't know what I'm missing, so I'm not unhappy" perspective.

Both examples (3D graphics and internet) give the user exactly enough "power" to get a taste of what the possibilities really are. The user can then go buy an add-on graphics card / update their Internet connection.

It's crucial that the features be included, albeit in a rather limited form, because it gives the user a chance to TRY these things. If there were no 3D capability / internet connection, the user wouldn't know what he was missing.
