Rather than identify classes of people to whom such stricter laws would apply, why not make the laws stricter for all? After all, why isn't assault a felony in the first place? That would be superficially fair, but I find it lacking in a very basic way. I think, for example, that the case of an adult male who took a swing at a woman, a child, or an elderly person in the course of a disagreement would be fundamentally different from the case of an adult male who did the same to another adult male. Not that the latter is acceptable, but it is far less offensive, in my view at least.

I wasn't supporting the idea, just pointing out that it appears in a futuristic sort of manner as where the agenda ends up.

"After all, why isn't assault a felony in the first place? You are out on a date with a new girl. You stop in a 7-11 because she has to go to the bathroom real bad. You get in a crowded line with your candy bar. Ooooops, no bathroom. There is some confusion in the line and the cashier seems overwhelmed. Your anguished xlegged girl yells at him, "oh, please hurry." He snaps and jumps in her face yelling, "just wait your gd dm turn beeetch." You wake up and give him one of those chest slams to get him out of her face and he flies back against the wall. He calls the cops and complains that you've hurt him and adds some exaggeration to how he has been victimized. Lots of witnesses too. You will likely be charged...felony? How many years do you think you should get?
