Seems they can save the attachment (doc file) to disk, then open it from disk in Word. In this case I think the email program reader is the culprit.

My wife tells me Macs have built in software to help with the pc compatibility issue. She used Macs in the graphics industry until a few years ago, when she switched platforms.

Assuming it will fit, why not have them copy the file onto a floppy disk and give it a go, instead of actually opening the email attachment directly?
