QCOM is the third largest component in the NDX 100. However, by market cap it is much smaller than other stocks such as CSCO, ORCL, DELL, AMGN, SUNW that are less influential in the index. So if one wants to manipulate the NDX or QQQs, then QCOM is the cheapest way to do it.
