Probably the same way an index trading 1.5 billion shares a day can be manipulated to 5,000.

Let's say you are a fund manager overseeing hundreds of billions of dollars. Let's say you see that the bubble is bursting and want to exit as much of your positions as possible before the decline is "noticed". You sell everything except QCOM to prop the indices up.
