REITS are a good idea for "now" but many have run up so much that you can't help but be afraid of them.

I'm only interested in three REITS (SUS, BFS, HMT)--the latter two are local stocks for me, been familiar with the people behind them all my life, have faith in their business judgment.

Have heard some local smart-money people recommending several other REITs that they've studied financially from top to bottom--but don't personally know much about them and don't have symbols or even accurately spelled names for them all. They include: GGP (General Growth Properties), Developers Diversified, Prentice (Prentiss?) Properties, KIM (Kimco), PKY (Parkway), WRI (Weingarten).

DO: Reits and high dividend plays:
MAC
CLI
VTR
AIJ (PE of 4 and dividend yield of 9%)
TCI
FNF

My worry is late to the party.

OT: Just saw Vernon Hill, the CEO of the very successful Commerce Bancorp (CBH) interviewed by Tyler Mathiesen on CNBC. He has a pronounced stuttering problem which must make this quite anxiety-provoking for him. Very courageous.
Kudos to him.

DlphO re: REITs....again.

You asked for some REIT ideas yesterday...have done a little more research and found one that might have a future....HCN (involved in health care facilities).

Personally would try to stay away from REITS comprised heavily of office buildings....might not do well in current economic downturn.... watch for growing vacancy rate in some geographic areas.

On another topic, didn't you mention once that you were a physician? If so, do you have any comments on LNCR? Been looking at this....hate the way it trades but like what it does.
