I saw the message you are referring to, but since I've decided not to encourage these people by ignoring them, I'm posting to you instead.

The fact is, this is a word picture that will never come to be because it's based on a completely false premise. I'll back up my claim with an example:

Near the little town of Thorne Bay Alaska, which was at one time the largest logging camp in the world, there is a log yard where logs are sorted for destination. It's probably not a pretty place by anyone's standard, until you look just off the yard where the surroundings are near-wilderness. It was a bustling, noisy, and muddy place. You wouldn't want to lay down there and go to sleep during work hours.

Every spring the doe black tail deer migrated in from miles around to drop their fawns in the log yard. It felt safe and secure to them. Everywhere else, where bears and wolves lurked in force, was a developed and productive managed forest surrounded by water on all sides.

All that is over now -- the loggers gone, the pulp mill in Ketchikan closed. I suppose the does will have to find a new place to drop their fawns since bears and wolves are unmoved by the demise and return to nature of the once bustling log yard.

The caribou cows in Prudhoe and ANWR will continue with their lives whether or not we drill for oil on that tiny postage stamp of a place far to the northernmost occurrence of the demolib statists.
