That would seem to be how it ought to be. I'm sure Quick and Reilly would have been on my case in a hurry if I had tried to trade over my margin limits. My quick reading of the new regulation gave me the (perhaps mistaken) impression that some brokers were letting clients trade much beyond the 50% limit as long as they ended up 100% cash at the end of the day.

I find it very funny that the SEC is finally trying to rein in margin usage by nickel-dime daytraders. Eighteen months ago would have been a lot more appropriate. Those people are all gone now after some, uh, reverses and have decided to resume their careers at the 7-11 and the carwash.
