Point accepted. I don't blame civility. If you want to make sincerity in purpose an agreed upon standard, then civility is an easy tool to engage.

For now lets say we have sincerity of purpose in determining worthy standards of living. Would it be likely that if either of us begin to lie so that we can advance a particular standard of living that we are also being sincere? I don't see how. When the values structure underlying societies standards are sound and universal, very little effort needs to be expended pursuading civility. When the underlying motives of a group are purely to advance political agendas you have a very different struggle.
