It is. << and in the midst of feeding your inferiority complex by searching for some technicality you could challenge you missed the whole point i was trying to make. YES, after the high initial development costs and if you can convince the environmentalists and natives to let you develop it hydro IS CHEAPEST, because it is renewable. but it can only be utilized in certain areas. you may say it's the cleanest, because there are no harmful pollutants or greenhouse gases generated, but it is not environmentally benign. obviously hydro power has many negative effects on the ecology of rivers and streams. >> Coal is not the cheapest, as you claimed. That is simply not accurate. << when i said coal is the cheapest i was referring to the widely used energy sources. sorry bub, but hydro is near the bottom of the list. coal generates over half the electricity in the u.s. followed by nuclear, and gas. hydro makes up a minor 10% of our electricity generation. >> The point is not related to geography << well you can't just build a hydro dam anywhere now can you? so unless you plan on shipping bottles of evian into a man-made dam everywhere across the united states i suppose it's a little easier to use coal, eh? hydro is a very mature industry and can only be utilized in limited areas. coal on the other hand can be utilized in many areas and use has grown 60% in the last 20 years. energy consumption from hydro has actually decreased over the last few of years, while coal has been steadily growing. so when i say i am bullish on coal over the next few years because it is the cheapest, what i obviously am referring to is widely available energy sources coming on stream in the next 3 years. and don't talk to me like i'm an idiot who has never heard of hydro. i'm from the northwest and am well aware of hydro as well as it's shortcomings. months back there was big talk on the news practically every day that there was a shortage of water and there might be blackouts and water shortages come summer. also, like i told you before, if you stopped flapping your gums so much trashing commodities on my thread and actually read some posts, you might learn something. like for instance you would learn that i have posted articles regarding hydro power in the past.Message 15951184 Message 15917221
