Toyoda Gosei Sues Nichia For Infringing Patent On Blue LED
Monday, September 3, 2001
TOKYO (Nikkei)--Toyoda Gosei Co. (7282) filed a lawsuit against Nichia Corp. on Monday claiming the Tokushima Prefecture-based chemicals firm has infringed on a patent it obtained in July for a blue light-emitting diode (LED).

Toyoda Gyosei's fourth suit against Nichia calls on the Osaka District Court to stop the firm from manufacturing, using or selling blue LEDs.

The patent is on the structure of an element that boosts the diode's luminosity.

"We can't make any comment since we have no knowledge of the patent," said a Nichia spokesperson.

Toyoda is a manufacturer of resin and rubber autoparts belonging to the Toyota Motor Corp. (7203) group.
