I like the question that you proposed. I wish she'd had the presence of mind to turn the tables like that. It likely would have jarred him from his canned "I've been married for 34 years. I am not a perfect man. Out of respect for my family, and in response to a specific request from the Levy family, I will not answer this question."

I could imagine the Levy family howling in fury at that. Their attorney was interviewed by Matt Lauer this morning. He said that not only did Mrs. Levy say last night that she asked Condit directly if he'd had an affair with Chandra, but that Condit was being self-serving in his "interpretation" of what the Levy's wanted him to disclose.

All in all, I thought he was defensive, obviously coached, and clearly there to save his own political career. The fact that he didn't offer an expression of sadness to the Levy family's loss made me very angry.

That said, I think Democrats have, and will continue to, distance themselves from him. The focus on Condit may be a distraction from Bush's bumblings, but I think he'll still be a one-term president.
