I couldn't watch the whole thing either. I, too, thought it was cheap to position his denial as a favor to the Levy family. I really resented it and I can only imagine how they felt. I'm unsure what this will do to the bigger political picture. jla mentioned that he thinks it will not be positive for Dems. I'm not sure. I think a lot of people of both parties have expressed their disgust at Condit's behavior. On the other hand, if someone can successfully position this as another incident in a series of Democratic politicians taking advantage of vulnerable young women (not that it doesn't happen in both parties with dismaying regularity), then it may be damaging come election time.

I came away from the interview scratching my head about what he hoped to accomplish. I don't see how he could have thought that those answers would do him any good. If he's not going to do himself any good, why do the interview? I thought his little script about how he's not a perfect person and has made mistakes, which he repeated four or five times was particularly stupid. He had no response when Chung asked him what mistakes he meant. I agree with you, though, that the all time stupidist (yes, I know that's not a word) thing was the distortion of the Levy's preference to have him not discuss the relationship because they didn't want to know. How brazen! How outrageous! How far beyond the sniff test! What a jerk! Karen
