First, hate and hostility are different things.

The dictionary defines hate as an intense hostility. I don't think a quibble over this is useful. I can see ways to improve the definition, but my discussion with you was not to polarize but to identify a natural human basis for the manner in which law has developed to reflect the thinking of the community.

But it is the world you live in. The fact that you choose to use words in a cute fashion to obscure the issue, does not change the fact that motivation is considered a part of the criminal act, and the legislation reflects this. The law looks favourably on contrition and regret. It penalizes hateful defiance. When the judge asks what you have to say before he considers the sentence, it had better not be, "-uck you, -igger."
