Hear is a little res ipsa for ya:

Let me tell you a story: when my wife and I were first together, we lived in a very small duplex with thin walls. I found out that the girls next door were convinced I was beating her, because of certain noises we sometimes made. Apparently, they had never been exposed to a passionate erotic relationship, and did not know how noisy things could get.

Additionally, at the time I was a heavy smoker of non- filtered cigarettes, and used the bottom of the bedroom closet for dirty clothes. Apparently, the smell of stale cigarette smoke seeped into their closet somewhat, and, not recognizing it, they thought it was marijuana. Needless to say, both things were embarrassing and difficult to straighten out..........

Gee. Maybe if every other lawyer on SI says hat their law prof said the same thing, E might begin to think that for the first time in her history of posting on SI she might possibly have made a small misstatement.

Or maybe not.
