what happens when the water dries up?

Um... worldwide power demand goes into a decline due to widespread mortality from dehydration and thirst?

You miss the point. Don't feel bad, lots of folks who are also not familiar with the elec power industry make the same mistakes.

The reason hydro is so rare is the strong and often violent opposition by environmentalists. Meaningful hydro power opportunities are not numerous, and so when they are opposed by environmentalists and voted down, the impact is big. Hydro is the cleanest power available, but environmentalists care more about the salmon. They are making a calculated bet. They hate all forms of power generation. All of them.

But obviously, the biggest air pollution problem now is cars. You and I and everyone reading this are part of the worst air pollution problem. Not the elec power co's. Us. Everyone on the road.

So maybe it doesn't matter. But to say that coal is better becuase it is bigger, well that statement completely misses the point.
