I am not saying is that whatever intel is doing is wrong. I think that intels actions hurt shareholders but intel obviously has more information about their business.

Amd, OTOH, got no choice. AMD bet their farm on cpu and therefore would fight for market share.

One thing is odd though; Barret said few weeks back that the best time to go after market share is during economic slow down. This line is right out of economics 101. The problem is that that approach is good for an average market player and intel is as far from an average as one can get. Intel controls 70+% on unit and probably way over 90% on $$$ basis. With such a market share company should optimize for the profits. Unless there are overriding concerns, of course. The only overriding concern that I can imagine (and it is a stretch) that intel is concerned about amd new products. Someone mentioned hammer recently?
