Re: A single Intel fab can crank out over 1.25 million CuMines a week

Yeah? Then why does Intel require 5 FABs making coppermines to crank out 2 million CPUs per week?

They sold fewer than 26 million CPUs last quarter, almost all with the coppermine core. A quarter had 13 weeks, last time I checked. Weren't you one of several crowing over how Intel had 5 FABS cranking out Coppermines that they were going to bury AMD with?

400K units per FAB, per week, is what it works out to. 5.2 million units per FAB, per quarter - less than what AMD's been getting from its smaller, much less expensive FABs (Dresden was only at half capacity when it cranked out close to 5 million parts).

If Intel can crank out 1.25 million CPUs per FAB then why did they just spend $7.5 Billion on additional FABs? Too late now, that money's gone forever...

On obsolete non-SOI technology, too - what they bought just catches them up to AMD's old copper and POD technology.

Does intel need to spend a little time at compulsive shoppers anonymous? They need to learn that, even if it's on sale, it's not a good deal if what you're buying can't do the job for you.
