My comments on the polygamist article (hi Karen -g):

On the age difference: The article doesn't give the current ages of Mr. Green's "spouses", but I remember being dismayed that the last four or five were much younger than he, twenty or thirty years difference. Also, two of the "wives" are sisters. Many of the wives are close in age and knew each other prior to entering the "family". This makes me wonder about the reason why the "wives" would seek this kind of situation out. It strikes me that they have the benefit of a very close "sisterhood" with the other wives, and all the benefits that entails, such as confidants, babysitters, people with whom to share chores. I'm going to be very interested in what happens after Mr. Green serves his five year sentence. Will the women come to the conclusion that they have been missing their family center, or will they conclude that it is the comfort given to each other, rather than the presence of Mr. Green, that is most important to them?

On the family income:

This really bothers me. There are 26 kids and three more on the way, and yet the only family income is through magazine subscriptions and they rely primarily on government aid? Grrrr.
