2002 estimates will be extremely easy to beat unless tech remains mired in this seemingly endless slump. If there is any recovery tech companies will be beating those estimates by a mile. Of course right now it's anyone's guess which is why the estimates themselves are all but meaningless. I'm stuck between optimism and pessimism. Which is probably the accurate position. Historically peaks of pessimism during sector downturns have been the right time to buy. On the other hand those stocks don't go up until they go up.
