I think the US should mind its own business. I've been noodling, though, just in the abstract, about other paradigms for the US in light of it's current supremacy. The article you cited is advocating we run with that supremacy instead of pretending to be first among equals as we have been doing since the end of the cold war. I was just pondering where that thinking could take us and what some other theoretical options might be given that premise. One thing that occurred to me was that we could take over Africa. Probably not North Africa or any viable sub-Saharan countries like South Africa. But most of Africa would be easy pickings. They couldn't put up much of a fight and no one else is in a position or would be inclined to stop us so it would be doable. The questions are: would it be moral and would it be smart. As for moral, well, the population of Africa is just ravaged by AIDS. Bunches and bunches will be dead in ten or twenty years. Their economies shot. Their cultures shot. Perhaps the kindest thing we could do would be take over and take care of them. As for smart, well, we're getting a bit crowded and there's lots of open space for development there. It's a lovely place. And full of natural resources. We could save the animals by setting up huge parks following the animals' natural migration routes and still have plenty of room for cities, suburbs, and vacation places. One of the post colonial problems is that the countries are drawn up oddly. We could redraw the boundaries more naturally and then make the resulting units states of the United States. There's plenty of room for more stars on the flag if we are creative about it. I'd be interested in hearing what anyone might think of the idea. Karen P.S. Paranoids are encouraged to just lurk.
