[B] Bush says US economic recovery slow in coming

--Bush urges tax relief to help Americans pay for energy costs

By Mark Tarallo
Washington, Aug. 29 (BridgeNews) - President Bush Wednesday made brief
but dire remarks about the lagging U.S. economy, saying a recovery is slow
in coming and that he is "deeply worried" about the impact of the economic
slowdown on working families.

Bush made remarks in an address to an American Legion conference in San
Antonio, Texas. The President is scheduled to return to Washington Thursday
after vacationing for several weeks at his ranch in Crawford, Texas.
In Wednesday's speech, Bush made reference to the second-quarter gross
domestic product figures released earlier in the day. The Commerce Department
reported that GDP grew at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 0.2%, which was
above expectations.
Bush said the figures confirmed that economic recovery is "slow in coming"
and that he is "deeply worried" about the impact of the current economic
slowdown on U.S. working families.
He also called the tax cutting initiative he pushed through Congress this
year the best policy to stimulate growth. End
