There's nothing wrong with social programs. We need them.
The right-wingers try to make them sound evil by calling them "socialist". In fact every government in the world is socialist, just more or less. We are the least socialist country outside of small tax havens. Am I not right, right-wingers? Every Euro country is twice as socialist as we are. Socialism is actually a very positive and necessary thing. You can't do without it unless your little country is so small and rich it's private property, then you are in fact the government yourself so it's socialist all over again. The government is at least partially responsible for taking care of its people. Otherwise no government and anarchy. Those who despise socialism ought to go find a private island to buy and live on all alone. Then they can hoard all their money and only take care of themselves. In fact such islands exist for the very rich tax evaders.

"The social agenda of both parties is similar. They only differ in the details and in amounts of money to fund these programs"

I'll buy that.

Unfortunitly, the American people are addicted. Instead of heroin, it is the social programs and democrats are the dealers. If republicans want to get a elected they have to feed the addiction. Sooner or later the addict is going to die!

America needs a big dose of methadone now!!!

You are right to a certain degree. The "war" rages around how far left i.e. socialistic, America will become.

I believe most Republicans consider Democrates way to far left. I will do everything in my power to prevent socialism from getting it's hooks into my constitution.

Socialism erodes freedom, the one thing over and above all else that I cherish.
