Still, Intel has pulled off a coup: the first commercial desktop CPU to hit 2GHz. As we've seen, it's an excellent performer in most applications, and even when the Athlon wins, it only wins by a relatively small margin. Two gigahertz is also a nice round number that customers can get their arms around easily. Intel must certainly hope so.


2.0GHz P4 reduce significantly the value of other Intel CPU while not being affordable or available.

Most buyer could think as follow:

-it's time to buy a 1.x GHz
-what is the best buy in the 1.x GHz
-Athlon 1.4GHz is the best deal.

-even staying with Intel, the PIII 1.GHz look like a celeron and are not going the sell at high price.

Other will also consider a Dual 1.4 or 1.5 MP Athlons being not more expensive then a single 2.0 P4 and a lot better performer with Win XP.
