if a newly released chip fails to run with an existing set of software, is it a software problem ? How does this issue compare to 1.13 GHz P3 & linux compiles? Were gcc or linux kernel the problem in that case ?

Based on what now both the author of the article as said and wanna_bmw's post, it looks like the nVidia driver is at fault... which means it's a "software" problem, not a problem with the P4 at all... so it isn't at all like the issue with the 1.13GHz P3.

muzosi,

re: if a newly released chip fails to run with an existing set of software, is it a software problem ?

Could it be a timing issue with a driver?
