Had Kennedy not been shot, he likely would have gone down in history as one of the most inept Presidents in history. His drug use and total misunderstanding of world politics were things of legend. One of my favorite Kennedy reads is "A question of character" by Reeves. He points out that the infamous PT109 incident was caused by Kennedy and his crew falling asleep on patrol and being rammed bya slow moving Japanese ship that they were supposed to be looking for. The Navy wanted to court marshal him over it but "The Senator" ( aka his father) had so much clout that he was able to get his son a medal instead. Also the parting words of Eisenhower were that he could fight in Laos, Cambodia or anywhere else he wanted to fight, but whatever he did, he should stay out of Vietnam because it couldn't be won. Within weeks, Kennedy was building up our troops for Vietnam. Luckily in the US, reality goes out the window once you die, especially if you die young. We instead cover up all the negatives and dwell on the positive. Yes, teh space program was great but we would have done it anyway albeit maybe a bit slower. The Peace Corps was nice also. BUt how many know that it was Bobby Kennedy and not Jack that got Martin Luther King out of Jail. JFK was quoted as saying, "Let that ^%*^&$ rot in jail" Only when Bobby started pushing and JFK saw how popular the rights movement was, did he give in a spring him free. JFK was one of the biggest biggots out there. Anyway, just wanted to say good job and point out some of my favs from the Kennedy legacy. Good Luck, Lee
