Well gee, aren't any of us who succeed, in Mr. Gephardt's immortal words, just "winners in life's lottery"? If the wrong number comes up, couldn't we all end up in a gutter or bridge abuttment? Reason #276 why I hate government lotteries.

Go to Southeast Washington, on the fringe of the ghetto. Stores with lottery tickets do a thriving business, not only in tickets, but in books about interpreting dreams, numerology, how to change your luck, and so forth. There are a lot of desperate people out there.......

Jeff, What happened to the Kentucky guy could prove the old adage that God takes care of fools and little children. In his financial state, I must admit that he was a fool to risk a dime, much less $8.00, but he has proven to be a fool for a significant period of his life. On the news last night, it was revealed that he had a rap sheet showing that he had been arrested for armed robbery, and carrying a concealed weapon. That, probably, has no bearing on if he receives the money, but I will bet a dollar to a doughnut that he does not prosper for very long. A Leopard can not change his spots. There's a good chance he will kill himself trying to drink, screw,, and put on the "big dog", to the extent of losing everything he has gained. He is not the kind of person that has any money to waste on the lottery but, unfortunately, is the kind that usually does so. A fool and his money are soon parted. (sorry about all the plagiarism). People that get themselves into a predicament like he was before winning the lottery, have usually gambled, and drank, themselves poor in the first place. All that being said, I don't think it is the fault of the lottery that these people waste their money. If one is to believe that, then the same thing would hold true for betting on football games, are playing a friendly game of poker in your den. No matter what any government, or religion, tries to do, there has always been, and always will be, gambling, drinking, and prostitution. No man can be protected from himself. As far as politics goes, Nevada is an example of gambling making lower state taxes possible. Or, at least, it was the little time I lived there. ~;=;o --haqi
