Moore's Law actually predicts the number of transistors in an integrated circuit, but the variation of Moore's Law that you're talking about (that relates to doubling performance) takes place every 18-24 months. If McKinley comes 12 months after Itanium, and given a quadratic curve, 50% more performance would be acceptable. Still, I would obviously prefer it if the 2x numbers are true.
