Rob, <<<I think IA64 gets off to a very slow start. This isn't new thinking. But does run contrary to all the glowing reports you might have read 12-18 months ago.>>>

IMO, the investment community hasn't gotten it yet. They haven't a clue what IA64 is all about.

IA64 is not about personal computing, it is about enterprise computing. It doesn't compete with AMD or Apple. It was designed to compete with IBM, Amdahl, Fujitsu, Siemens, HP, Unysis, MIPS, SGI, Tandom, Stratus, Alpha(CPQ), and SUNW. It was designed to compete against proprietary 64bit processors. It appears that the competition, with the exception of SUNW, have all but given up before IA64 launch.

As far as Intel is concerned, IA64 is not about next quarter or next year. It is about Intel 5, 10, 15, 20 years from now.

I expect that starting 5 years from now, IA64 will generate more revenues and earnings than the rest of Intel.

It will be one of those things, where investors will look back 5 years from now and say that should have been a no brainer. But, for now there is nothing but skepticism and confusion.
