One is that AIDS is infectious, whereas cancer, heart disease, etc. aren't.
Nuts! Then why don't we stop all funding for non-infectious diseases?
Cancer kills more people than all the infectious diseases COMBINED! Shall we let millions die because some group choses to engage in dangerous and irresponsible practices?

How do you know heart disease is non-infectious? There is evidence suggesting that it often results from prior infections in the body, particularly abcessed teeth.
There is also good evidence that diabetes often results from viral infection of the pancreas. The immune system detects infection in the pancreatic cells and something goes wrong, there is a misidentification of the offending antigen, and they attack the pancreas rather than the infection. An auto-immune disease.

Ebola is an infectious disease- -very rare in this country. Why not throw billion$$$ at it?

The second argument is that is leaking into the general community, so it's a disease our children could get. Or our grandchildren.</oi>
It's leaking in because certain groups are perpetuating it. If they stop or it annihilates them, there is no problem.
And, again, even given that, cancer and heart disease are far more likely to kill you.

Whatever you feel about their cause, you have to admire the abilities of the AIDS coalition to muster political pressure.
"Admire" is NOT the word I would use.
