In addition to $20 million in cash, Williams -- a bandwidth provider -- will invest $10 million in services, in exchange for stock that represents 65 percent of common shares.

"This is positive for the whole sector," says Brent Bracelin, an analyst with Pacific Crest Securities. "A lot of players exited this sector because it was so unprofitable and to the extent some folks have stepped up to fund these companies, this is positive."

Williams now provides iBeam satellite and fiber transmission capabilities for its streaming media network. In a press release, Laura Kenny, president of Williams' Vyvx broadband media unit, said, "This relationship underscores our strong belief in the streaming and broadband markets."
