SMP, Symmetrical Multi Processing, is an architecture in which multiple CPUs, residing in one cabinet, share the same memory.

I assume the software has to be segmented to take advantage of the processing.

Hyperthreading is a process whereby one processor can process, what I assume is this same segmented data simultaneously, in parallel.

Intel's simultaneous multithreading design, originally code-named Jackson Technology, allows a single processor to manage data as if it were two processors by handling data instructions in parallel rather than one at a time. Using Hyper-Threading technology, data instructions are "threaded" as parallel streams for processing.

I'm excited that Jackson Technology (or just JT as it was called internally) is finally being openly discussed. This has the potential to provide great performance enhancement for certain applications. The details are obviously more complicated than the overall concept, and it won't provide major performance boosts for every application, but for properly designed code the result will be worth the implementation effort.

I wonder what the marketing name will be? None of the references to Hyper-Threading indicate a trademark.
