Win2000: not true. Oh it has the usual medley of security patches, but the only thing it's ever messed with on mine is the sound, which every 3 or 4 months, disappears, forcing a reboot.

Win95 was my previous nightmare, often crashing 5-12 times per day, no joke. 2000 has frozen up twice, maybe three times, since 2/2000. Not even living things have proven that reliable... We're getting married in September.
