I had something of a otherly experience today. I went to a laundromat. It's been a good ten years. I used to take my comforter every once in a while and use the oversized washers but I finally started just taking it to the dry cleaners to be laundered. Today I took the mattress cover from my Tempurpedic. I was eating some chocolate ice cream in bed the other day...

I think that the place still had the same machines as when I was last there. The front door was open and it was just scorching inside. The only place to sit was a low table that looked like it was intended for laundry baskets. There was a fan mounted high on the wall. It wasn't pointed at the seats but at the middle of a wall of washers. The fan was just covered in shriveled, greasy dust bunnies, but it worked. I finally stood up against the center washer rather than sitting down and reading my book as planned. I still haven't finished the "Cat Who" mystery I picked up at the library the same day I got my Camus.

The only other person there was an old black man, whom I greeted when I walked in and made some small talk with during our stays, which ended just about the same time. I say he was old. He was probably my age but in worse shape. He kept dropping clothes on the floor as he took them from the dryer and struggled so to pick them up. It was one of those situations where I had to decide if it was more considerate to pick them up for him or to let him do it. I decided to not intervene.

I was really glad to get home, sopping wet, to my A/C.
