William, Re: How could "AMD Processor Pricing Effective August 26, 2001" already be in the stores 2 weeks ago.

The OEM get these price cuts some weeks in advance before they become official. Those OEMs then dump the CPUs in the gray channel for a little profit. Then every one has to lower their prices because the competition gets the cheap OEM CPUs. And then AMD has to lower prices for the official AMD retailers as well because they complain that they can get the same CPU from inofficial channels at a hefty discount.

At least this is the way it works in depressed markets like now. Same goes for Intel's price cuts.
