The entire motivation for the Dems is that a Republican would win the special election in Condit's district-and one more House seat change might put the House out of their reach for a decade.

Republican Senate victories, with Jeffords gone, and at the expense of Democrats in red zone states would tame the Republican left for years to come, as well as bring the remaining red zone Dem senators out of Daschle's lock box...
