tc re:scandisk - I tried safe mode (good to know about!), but it looped (something still writing). The winning combo last night was 1. turn off printer 2. disable virus protect 3. unplug cable modem

Incidentally, no errors found :) Also no corrupt files. Rambooster was uninstalled. Ready for the rest later. Right now, I'm not getting the error message, but it may be back.

BTW I do have Earthlink dialup backup & data feed is Quote.com (thanks bosquedog), so now I know better what's running on startup (not that I don't pare startup, but eternal vigilance is required).
