SuperPI has been phenomenally popular among extreme overclockers in Japan and nearby areas for some time. This is the only place where it is phenomenally popular, but it is very firmly rooted as such. I know one well known fellow in Japan who was *convinced* that AMD was doomed because Coppermine was much faster than K75 (180nm Athlon with separate L2 chips) in SuperPi.

You know that's not true, wan. I can name a few off the top of my head that fit this category. But that's still irrelevant, since it's still all Apple picking*.

I should note that not every application can garner phenomenal gains on the Pentium 4, even with the most amazing attempt at optimization. There is no SIMD branch instruction, nor is there a ROLPS.
