BEEP!!! Wrong answer! P4 is missing a barrel shifter and takes more than 1 clock cycle to do a large shift. Thus P4 can not pipeline shifts. No other modern x86 CPU has forgotten to include a barrel shifter. Athlon gets a tremendous boost over P4 with any program doing a lot of shifts. Communication programs anyone?

Better check on P4 micro architecture before putting your foot in your mouth.
